How to improve your personal online presence

Your face. Hope that interrupted your search! In this post, I’m going to show you exactly how I doubled my competence and influence online in 5 minutes. More importantly, you’re going to learn how to do the same.

An important part of improving your personal presence and increasing your visibility is to put your best foot forward. You do it in person with interviews, so why don’t most people do it online?

So what exactly do I mean by your face? Well, a profile picture is the first thing people see when they find you. Whether on Tinder, LinkedIn, Facebook or your blog, people want to see the person behind it all. And the biggest mistake that you have made so far is that you probably picked your own profile picture.

But how is that the biggest mistake?

I had been running the profile picture to the below.

I thought it was the best — my partner said it wasn’t, but what does she know right? Well turns out that maths proved her right… this time.

There are awesome tools that you can use to find out statistically what your best photo is. You essentially upload a few photos, tell the world what they’re for, and people will rate you. Sounds fun, right?

So here was a quick test run I did.

The results are in! And as you can see, my partner was right. I did it recently again with a bigger sample size of 100 and the results were unanimous, I choose wrong.

And what did this mean for my personal presence? As you can see, the left photo rated much high on influence and competence. The other photo was a terrible choice and over half as effective on both those fronts.

So why not give it a go yourself and see which profile picture would be your best foot forward
